pasture raised beef from our Family to Yours!
WHAT IS PASTURE RAISED BEEF?
Pasture-raised means that the cattle get a significant portion of their nutrition from organically managed pastures. Sometimes the foraged feed may be dried and stored for future use. Pasture-raised livestock graze on organic grass, as they roam freely in pastures which are chemical free. This means the pasture is not treated with any synthetic fertilizers. There are no pesticides being used either.
Grain fed cows are often fed grains in order to ensure that the cows gain weight rapidly, so that they may be slaughtered. Pasture raised beef offers a myriad of benefits in comparison to grain fed beef, from environmental benefits to health benefits. At Yandina Butchery, we ensure that our customers can enjoy 100% pasture raised, chemical free beef which comes from happy, free-ranged cows. BENEFITS OF PASTURE RAISED BEEF
Better For Your Health
Beef which is produced from pasture raised cows is healthier and more nutrient-rich for us to eat than beef produced from grain-fed cattle.
Grass Is Healthier For Animals
Several scientific studies show that pasture raised animals are happier, less stressed, live longer lives and are more fertile than those farmed intensively.
Good For The Environment
Grass-fed farms often have a positive carbon footprint, by regenerating the soil rather than depleting it, and supporting more wildlife.
Supports Local Farmers
Pasture raised cattle helps support local farmers as grass is an often under utilised crop and there is a lot of potential to produce more food from our grassland, reducing the need to import feeds.
Do you know where your food comes from? Do you know what it’s fed, injected with, or what quality of life it experiences? We are a family operated butcher shop, founded by these very questions. We think you should know exactly where your food comes from and that it experienced a cruelty-free life.
Our goal at Yandina Butchery is to produce food that we feel good about feeding to our children. Pasture raised beef is high in nutrients from grass and plants, according to nature’s incredible design.
By including pasture raised beef in your diet, you can ensure that you and your family are receiving high numbers of vitamins and amino acids. Pasture raised cows feast on grass and plants in pastures and are free to roam. This means that the nutrients which cows absorb from grass are present in the beef that they produce.
“You are what you eat” is more prevalent than ever today, given that we now understand the health impacts of specific foods. This rule is also applicable to pigs as a pig’s diet can significantly affect the nutrient composition of its pork. This is particularly evident when it comes to fatty acid composition.
The way pigs are fed can have a major effect on the nutrient composition of their pork. In modern times, with the growth of commercial farming – pigs are often fed grains. However, the animals which people ate throughout evolution roamed free and ate grass. Many studies have shown that the nutrients in pork can vary depending on what pigs eat. This has led to society questioning whether the way pigs are fed makes any difference to your health.
Studies have shown grass fed, pasture raised pork usually contains less total fat than grain-fed pork, which means that gram for gram, grass-fed pork contains fewer calories. However, the composition of fatty acids is also different between the two types of pork. It has been proven that grass fed pork contains up to five times as much omega-3 as grain fed pork. Omega-3 is an essential vitamin which has been shown to improve brain function and overall health.
Fatty acids found in pasture raised meat are essential for human growth and development and are often thought to only be derived from fruits, vegetables and fish. However these fatty acids also occur in abundance in grass fed pork. The pork is a rich source of this healthy fat because the pigs spend their lives eating plants that are naturally rich in omega-3s themselves. By eating this natural diet, the pigs are able to absorb nutritious fats. As a result of this, grass fed pork has nearly 60% more omega-3s than pork from pigs that have been raised on a low-omega-3 grain diet.
There are a wide range of benefits associated with omega-3s, these include: a reduced risk of heart disease and stroke. Omega-3s also helps reduce symptoms of hypertension, depression, attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), joint pain and other rheumatoid problems, as well as certain skin ailments. Research from various studies has shown that omega-3s can also boost the immune system and help protect us from an array of illnesses.
